World Food Championship 2012 Hits Vegas

Vegas is already the home of special events and championships of various sorts, but this past weekend it hosted a new type of challenge: the inaugural World Food Championships!

From Nov. 1-4, Adam Richman of Man vs. Food Travel Channel TV fame hosted this new competition that pitted some of the world’s top chefs against each other with big cash prizes.

As stated on the event’s official website, “the sport of competition food has grown into a multi-million dollar industry,” and as such “it can no longer be denied.” The solution, of course, is a new epic challenge that includes a World Barbeque Championship, World Open Chili Championship, World Side-Dish Challenge, and a World Recipe Challenge, among others.

The main events were held at Bally’s Las Vegas, with Paris Las Vegas and Caesar’s Palace also hosting activities.

The winning chefs advanced to a food final table where $300,000 in prize money was up for grabs.

World Food Championship 2012 Winner

The chef who ultimately emerged victorious at the prestigious final table was Robert Butler, along with his sous chef Lowell McCain. The two were the victors of the World Sandwich Championship and claimed the coveted title of World Food Champion along with a nice payday of $50,000.

Butler and McCain were chosen as the ultimate winner by the event’s panel of celebrity judges. We will have to wait and see if this championship becomes popular enough to be an important mainstay on the Vegas even circuit. If the chefs keep serving up delicious food, it seems likely it will do just that!
